Borderlands 2 physx fix6/19/2023 This explains about everything anyone needs to know about this very old and ongoing issue. The tweaks in the first post do not fix the problem, they just give you some extra fps without any visual decrease in quality. Unfortunately knowing what the problem is does not help at all with fixing it. That is just a rumor started by people that do not understand the problem. People with more time and knowledge than me believe it is due to a bug in occlusion culling with this specific variant of Unreal 3 and Windows 10, see here: The physx implementation of the game IS a problem, but you cannot completely disable it.Įven with the setting as low as possible and no physx calculations happening the game still has massive framerate issues on modern hardware with Win10 that did not exist on Windows 7 with much older hardware. ![]() ![]() Standing there and looking back into the city similarly gives me sub 60 fps before the changes, and above 60 afterwards. Similarly if I go to Opportunity and run to the right, following the edge of the city, I reach an area where several loaders spawn followed by a large loader spawning on what looks like a helipad. ![]() Both of those are absurdly low for my hardware which is not being taxed at all by the game. After these fixes I am getting 67 FPS in the same spot. All of my tests are with physx off, an OCed 1070 2076 MHz core clock and an OCed i7 example, standing on the platform in overlook where the beacon lands in that quest to defend it from hordes of loaders, I get about 57 FPS when looking towards the dam in the distance. Though turning physx to low certainly helps FPS, it does not fix the problems the game has - and even a quick bit of testing will prove this for yourself. The physx libs are still used for all the minor physics, even though the extra particles we associate with physx are no longer visible. PhysX turned to "low" is essentially off for this game. The author also recommends limiting pre-rendered frames to 1, but I imagine most players that care about this issue already do that for minimal input lag. These tweaks do not lower visual quality with the exception of MaxParticleResize, which limits the number of physx particles. The actual changes are all in WillowEngine.ini, located in Documents\My Games\borderlands 2\willowgame\config. Neither of these were discovered by me, the original links are here: I did however finally find some tweaks today that improve my FPS by about 10, which makes me stay over 60 FPS much more often. I went through all of them looking for the magic fixes that make FPS with modern hardware on Windows 10 as good as it should be.
